ABOUT

Hello, my name is Charlie. After achieving 4 A*s at A Level at my local state school, I secured a place at Oxford University and graduated with a First in Maths. I obtained a First in each year, prizes for the highest mark in my college (Keble College) in each year, and I was elected to Scholarship for my performance in each year.

I have a genuine passion for Maths as it is unique in being the only subject which, somehow, simultaneously represents objective truths while emanating from the brain of the beholder (but feel free to challenge me on this if you’re interested in the Philosophy of Mathematics and you’re not a follower of structuralism!).

In the words of Armand Borel – Mathematics is an extremely complex creation which displays so many essential traits in common with art and experimental and theoretical sciences that it has to be regarded as all three at the same time, and thus must be differentiated from all three as well. I think that this way of thinking about Maths is really important when it comes to the approach you need to take for your interview. I can help you acquire the mindset and techniques to put you in good stead to deal with the curveballs that your interviewer might – rather, will – throw at you.

I have been tutoring for many years, helping students to prepare for Maths interviews at Oxford and Cambridge, the Oxford Maths Admissions Test, and for A Level Maths & Further Maths exams.

I receive excellent feedback from my students, in particular on my ability to communicate complex ideas in simple terms; on being able to identify areas of weakness and successfully work together with my students to eliminate those weaknesses; and on my friendly, down-to-earth approach.
